About
I’m Tim. I help leaders cut through the noise in their people work and move things forward with confidence.
About Tim
I’ve spent more than twenty-five years in HR, leading people operations, HR services and business partnering teams in organisations where the people challenges are rarely neat. Most of my work has sat where strategy, operations and risk meet: large-scale change, TUPE and M&A, contact centres, site closures and the day-to-day realities of running teams. I’m at my best when I’m cutting through the noise, strengthening the basics and asking the awkward, practical questions that stop things drifting into overcomplication. My instinct is continuous improvement rather than maintenance mode. I’m a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, based in Sunderland, and I set up One Point Four West to offer calm, practical support: honest insight, straight challenge and solutions that work in the organisations you already have rather than the ideal ones in a slide deck.
“Authentic, empowering and driven by integrity. Simplifies complex processes, removes blockers and designs people strategy that delivers business results and great employee experience.”
Where I come from
I’ve worked across telecoms, manufacturing, BPO, retail and financial services, partnering sales, operations and support functions in organisations where the people challenges are real and usually messy. Contact centres. National branch networks. Large shared service teams. A mix of sectors rather than one neat lane, which has probably become my biggest strength.
Over that time I’ve led HR, People Operations and shared services teams, keeping things grounded in what actually works rather than what looks tidy in a slide deck. That has included leading TUPE and integration activity, closing and consolidating sites, and helping leaders steer teams through periods of sustained pressure without losing their people on the way.
Experience includes
- Leading HR, People Operations and shared services functions.
- Designing and delivering people strategies that connect to commercial outcomes rather than glossy presentations.
- Running major change programmes including restructures, consultation, redundancy, mergers and acquisitions and TUPE.
- Navigating complex ER and IR issues including union matters and high-risk cases.
- Building people dashboards that give leaders a clear view of risk, cost and culture.
- Supporting boards and executives with straight, unvarnished insight that helps them act.
Why “One Point Four West”?
It’s the longitude line on the Wear – a simple reminder of where the work is grounded. Clear views shaped by Sunderland, the North East, the coast and the communities here. The work travels further, but the centre of gravity stays the same.
Most client work happens remotely with focused in-person sessions when it matters – whether that’s Sunderland, Newcastle, Leeds, London or somewhere else entirely.
Why I set this up
I set up One Point Four West because leaders don’t need more jargon or theatrics. They need clarity, honesty and practical support from someone who has actually worked inside real organisations rather than around them.
I live in the North East with my wife and daughter. They provide the usual mix of grounding, perspective and reminders about what really matters.
